Day 8 – Kenspeckle Letterpress

Did you really think we would do a “12 days of Gifting” without mentioning Rick Allen and Marian Lansky of Kenspeckle Letterpress??

I didn’t think so….

As you all know, Rick Allen is possibly Siiviis and Sivertson Gallery’s most popular artist. Without a doubt, he is certainly the most hilarious! His work brings happiness, love and laughter to all… Truly a wonderful gift to give this holiday season.

One print in particular of Rick’s that took our little town by storm was his “Grand Marais/Big Water” poster. This print started out simply as our advertisement for the Gallery’s 2013 Summer Solstice party. However, we quickly realized after putting up these posters around town (light poles, post office, library, etc.), within days, hours even, they were GONE! People were stealing our posters!! Well… who can blame them?? They are gorgeous! So, for those honest Minnesotans who couldn’t even stomach the idea of stealing a poster… we asked Rick to create a large sized poster for us to sell in the gallery. He said yes, the rest is history!

Now Marian… her work speaks volumes. People stand in front of her wall with hands to their mouths, just taking it in. This year, her print “Bear Heart” seemed to attract the most conversation. For example, one family who came out of the BWCA this summer stopped by the gallery on their way home. The teenage son was standing by Marian’s wall when his dad walked by. “Hey Dad, what about this one?” They proceeded to talk about all the things they liked about this particular image, how it reminded them of this or that, and I could see that this Dad was loving this discussion. I had nearly forgotten about the interaction, until after lunch the Dad came back to the gallery, and with the same big smile on his face he said, “I have NEVER seen my son so engaged with a work of art before!”

From family cabins, to Twin Cities living rooms, and now even teenage boys’ bedrooms, Marian and Rick’s images bring happiness wherever they hang.
